Spring Tune Up Tips

Spring is finally here, and now is a good opportunity to make sure some basic things are looking good in your vehicle for the coming summer months. There are a number of things you can look at yourself, and if any further maintenance is required, take your vehicle down to Kelowna Toyota and our service staff will be happy to take care of all your vehicle needs.

Take a Look Under the Hood

The first thing you need to look at is everything under the hood. If your vehicle has not gone for an oil change since the winter, take it in for one. Check the other fluids, including power steering, brake, and transmission fluid, and top up as needed. This also includes the windshield washer fluid and coolant. Also check the belts and hoses for any tears and frays, and replace as needed.

Check the Exterior

There are a number of things to check on the exterior of your vehicle. Take a look at the tires, and check the tread to ensure that they don’t need to be changed. If you switched to winter tires, change them back to summer tires. Also consider rotating the tires if they haven’t been done for awhile, as this can reduce wear and tear on them. Your wiper blades will need to be checked as well so that they still remove any dirt and debris from your windshield. Lastly, take a look at the brake pads to ensure they are still operating well.

Clean the Cabin

Spring is a great opportunity to give your car a spring cleaning. Discard any trash that has been lurking during the winter, and give the interior a vacuuming and wiping to keep things fresh and clean for all your passengers. Also give the exterior a good washing to get rid of any grime and salt, as this can lead to rusting over the long term.

Inspect The Brakes

Having a technician check your brake pads and rotors regularly for safety issues is important to keep you safe on the road. Neglecting them can lead to a costly repair, or even an accident.

Rotate Tires and Check Air Pressure

Rotating your tires is a great way to make them last longer. Front tires can wear out prematurely if you leave them on too long, which can lead to handling issues and ultimately new tires. Also check the traction of each tire (including the spare) and change tires as needed.
